UNC Charlotte: HOME of THE 49ERS

Having eighteen varsity men's and women's sports including basketball, soccer, tennis, baseball, golf, track field, cross country, softball, volleyball, and football, there's always a 49er team in action throughout the year.

With nationally ranked teams and award-winning athletes, 49ers sports are always exciting. Attending games and supporting your team is a fun way to enjoy the University experience.

Not only does UNC Charlotte have great teams and athletes, we have outstanding facilities where our passionate fans experience the excitement of college sports.

The James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center/Halton Arena...

contains the playing arena for the 49ers men's and women's basketball and volleyball programs. In addition, the facility includes locker rooms, coaches' offices and 49ers athletic department administrative offices.

The Jerry Richardson Football Stadium Complex...

includes the 15,000 seat stadium, a field house, and two practice fields. A press box, complete with media seating, a university box and television and radio booths adorns the west sideline at the concourse level. The Field House includes coaches offices and meeting rooms, locker rooms and weight training rooms, as well as an Academic Center, a tiered classroom and a Hospitality Deck. The stadium field is a synthetic playing surface with inlay graphics and lines. A full length practice field and an 80-yard practice field is set off the east entrance.

Outdoors, the Belk Track Field Center/Transamerica Field...

includes the playing venue for the 49ers track and field and soccer programs. The site has played host to NCAA soccer tournament games, USA Track and Field events, and Atlantic 10 Track and Field and Soccer Championships.

The D.L. Phillips Complex...

contains the athletic facilities for the 49ers baseball, softball and tennis programs as well as the Wachovia Fieldhouse which includes the locker rooms and coaches offices for both soccer programs as well as the baseball and softball programs. The Robert and Mariam Hayes Baseball stadium is a gorgeous place to spend a spring afternoon or evening supporting the 49ers.

The Charlotte 49ers compete in 18 varsity sports on the NCAA Division I level and are a member of Conference USA. Committed to the pursuit of excellence, 49ers athletes succeed on and off the courts and fields. Student-athletes have eclipsed the 3.0 collective GPA mark for five straight seasons and logged 24 Academic All-Americans since 2003, while also completing over 2,500 hours of community service annually to give back to the greater Charlotte region. Our nationally ranked men’s soccer team earned its fourth straight bid to the NCAA Tournament and won the Conference USA regular-season championship. The 49ers received one of the NCAA’s top 16 seeds after spending the bulk of the season in the top 10 of the national polls. Charlotte was ranked as high as fourth in the polls and became the first 49ers program to be ranked #1 in the NCAA’s RPI ratings. The 49ers football program completed Season Two and is prepared to make the move to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and Conference USA in 2015. Keyed by standout sophomores Kalif Phillips (1441 rushing yards; 20 TD) and Austin Duke (1373 receiving yards; 10 TD), the 49ers finished with a win-loss record of 5-6, a very commendable season considering that we started an average of 15 freshmen or sophomores in our 22-man lineup. Head coach Brad Lambert has scheduled Kentucky, Temple, Georgia State and Presbyterian in non-conference games for 2015 to complement the C-USA slate that will be released in February.

Ultimately, the true foundation of a university is the great minds and enthusiasm of its students and faculty. UNC Charlotte is proud to have approximately 900 passionate and committed faculty members (of the full-time instructional faculty, nearly 85% hold the highest degrees attainable in their fields). Our more than 100,000 living alumni -- with an addition of 4,000 to 4,500 new alumni annually -- are a testament to the strength of the students in our university community.
