UNC Charlotte was one of 20 universities chosen to participate in the US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2013. The Solar Decathlon challenges collegiate teams from around the world to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive.
UNC Charlotte’s UrbanEden house incorporates truly revolutionary approaches to sustainable design and construction, including the choice of building material, an innovative passive cooling and heating system integrated into the walls and ceiling of the house, and responsive technology that allows the house and its inhabitants to adapt to changing environmental conditions.
