SOAR

Entering freshmen must attend a Student Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) program. Information will be mailed in early March and online program registration will be available at www.soar.uncc.edu also in March.

During SOAR, students will meet their faculty, academic advisor, take placement tests, and register for fall classes. Each student will have a student orientation counselor and will participate in activities as part of a small group. All student participants are required to spend the night in a residence hall as an integral part of the experience.

A concurrent program is held for parents, so that they may also become familiar with UNC Charlotte. Separate social activities are planned in the evening for parents and students.

New freshmen entering in fall will not be able to register for classes until they attend SOAR (orientation). There is no SOAR Program offered for students who are starting in a summer session. However, it is mandatory for summer students to be advised in order to register for classes. Contact your academic department to set up an appointment with an academic advisor. For students who are undecided about major, contact the University Advising Center, located in 2038 Colvard, at 704-687-7717.
