Orientation and Class Schedule Advising

New International Student Orientation

International Student Orientation is offered right before the beginning of the semester. This orientation is hosted by the International Student and Scholar Office (ISSO).

  • The orientation is designed to prepare new international students for life on an American campus and explain important information regarding immigration regulations.
  • This orientation is REQUIRED for all international students in F-1 and J-1 status.
  • If you are an international student in F-1 or J-1 status, you must attend the ISSO orientation AND SOAR.
  • Students who are unable to register for SOAR because they are arriving late will have the opportunity to attend the ISSO orientation and a later SOAR session.  Both are required.

SOAR - Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration Program

New international undergraduate students participate in a SOAR Program at the beginning of the term and must register to sign-up online. This program assists you with the transition to UNC Charlotte and provides an opportunity to meet with an academic advisor and register for classes. You will also learn important information about the University and all of the services in place to promote your success. Register for SOAR here.

Math Placement for Engineering Majors

Engineering majors will be placed directly into Pre-Calculus for your first semester. We recommend you take the summer to work on your math skills to be fully prepared for your Engineering curriculum.
If you would like to skip Pre-Calculus and start in Calculus I, you will be required to take the Math Placement Exam.

Math Placement for Non-Engineering Majors

In order to register for Math courses, you will be required to take the Math Placement Exam. You cannot register for any Math courses prior to taking the exam.
