Preparing for Admission

Summer Before Junior Year


Fall of Junior Year

  • Discuss the college search process with your family and high school counselor.
  • Explore college majors and career paths. You might be surprised by the variety of majors that can prepare you for an ideal job.
  • Register to take the SAT or ACT. Request that your scores be sent to UNC Charlotte (SAT code: 5105, ACT code: 3163).
    • Tip: Ask your counselor if you are eligible for a test registration fee wavier.
  • Attend college fairs (or virtual admission events) in your area. Ask questions! Have some prepared before attending the program.

Spring of Junior Year

  • Take the SAT and ACT. Whether you are taking one test for the first time or retaking a test, a second test attempt often leads to a higher score.
  • Visit Charlotte! Look for an open house and campus visit events.
  • Plan your senior year carefully, reviewing college admissions requirements and your proposed course schedule. Consider AP or honors courses but do not overload.

Summer Before Senior Year

  • Come for a summer visit! If you haven’t had the chance to visit us in person, sign up for an information session and campus tour.
  • Take the SAT or ACT. Request that your scores be sent to Charlotte.
    • Note: Test scores are optional for students applying for 2022.

Fall of Senior Year

  • Apply for admission through the Future 49er Portal, the Common App, or CFNC. Our application opens Aug. 1!
  • Submit your admission application and fee/fee waiver by our Early Action deadline, Nov. 1.
  • Official high school transcript(s) and other supporting documentation must be received by Nov. 15 to meet the Early Action deadline.
  • Request to have your official high school transcript sent to us.
  • Review application deadlines and requirements for the University’s honors programs.
  • Check with your school counselor to see when our admissions counselors might be visiting your school or area. Sign up to attend!
  • Register for Open House taking place in October.
  • Follow our social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook and Twitter) for up-to-date information from Niner Nation.

Spring of Senior Year

  • Apply for scholarships. Admitted students may apply for scholarships using the NinerScholars Portal. Most deadlines for incoming students are in February.
  • Monitor your application status in the Future 49er Portal. If you are admitted, review your next steps for enrollment and admitted student events.
  • Submit your residency certification number: ncresidency.org.
    • If you claimed North Carolina residency on your admission application, and have not already done so, please complete the residency process with the Residency Determination Service and provide your residency certification number (RCN) to Undergraduate Admissions as soon as possible to ensure your bill reflects the correct tuition rate.
    • You may upload your RCN from your application portal.
