Diversity

You'll have many opportunities to diversify your experience at UNC Charlotte by taking classes that focus on cultural awareness or joining an ethnically focused organization. To make the most of your time here, you should take advantage of the many opportunities on campus to get a truly diverse education.

Diversity

We're proud of the many programs and services we offer on and off campus to support students by fostering a fundamental understanding of diversity, unique learning styles, cultural differences and human relationships.

The Office of Multicultural Academic Services: Assists undergraduate and graduate students, with emphasis on students from traditionally underrepresented populations. MAS offers tutoring, academic advice, workshops and organizations which foster social and educational growth. Scholarship opportunities are also available through MAS.

The University Center for Academic Excellence: Provides free academic support to enrolled students! Services include Tutorials, Supplemental Instruction, Building Educational Strengths & Talents (B.E.S.T.), Structured Study Groups, The Learning Lab and Students Obtaining Success (S.O.S.).

The Multicultural Resource Center: Offers on-going education and training exploring the many facets of diversity and human relations. We also provide student services and encourage student involvement in the campus community.

The Office of International Programs (OIP): Considered a national model of a comprehensive international education office. We promote curriculum development, faculty research and program implementation in the various colleges; administer the English Language Training Institute; and coordinate campus activities related to international students and scholars, education abroad, international exchange, cross-cultural training and world affairs education.

Religious & Spiritual Life: Are you looking for a place of worship in the Charlotte area? UNC Charlotte offers several student organizations through our Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, where they provide an environment that encourages students to fellowship, have fun and learn about their faith.

Sex & Gender Diversity (LGBTQ): Our campus community is dedicated to celebrating all forms of diversity. We also strive to create an environment where all students feel safe and comfortable in their own skin. We offer on-going diversity training and presentations, such as Friendly Peer Training and the Safe Zone. The purpose of the Safe Zone Program is to create an affirming and supportive campus climate through identifying and educating members of our campus community who are opened to and supportive of all individuals regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. The Friendly Peer Training Program is specifically designed for undergraduate students and provides basic information about the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning community. The goal is for students to walk away with a better understanding of the LGBTQ population, find resources on campus for LGBTQ students, and ultimately to be a better, more friendly peer.

University Transition Opportunities Progam (UTOP) is a summer program designed to help new freshmen prepare for their first semester of college.
