Is a community of students, faculty and industry partners who study, design, research and build together. From the bachelor's to the doctoral level, college of engineering students participate in experiential, hands-on projects while learning to visualize, design, create, build and apply. Engineering is a rigorous program of study, requiring expertise in math. Students may be admitted directly to their major of choice if they meet specific requirements for Engineering.
Serves all undergraduate students in all of the academic colleges that make up the academic community through the General Education program. This curriculum reflects this university's commitment to the principles of a liberal arts education; a broad training that develops analytic, problem solving and communications skills; and also awareness of bodies of knowledge and new perspectives that prepare students for success in their careers and communities in the 21st century. Students who are undecided in their major choice will benefit from the advising services in University College until they declare a major at the University.
Offers academically talented, enthusiastic, motivated students many of the personal and intellectual advantages of a small liberal arts college within the diversity of a large university. The emphasis is on seminars, intensive reading, writing and discussion in which reasoned self-expression and critical thinking are valued and rewarded. The Honors College is comprised of several distinct programs, each with their own standards for admission and requirements for graduation.
Students interested in pursuing a healthcare-related professional degree following their undergraduate program are considered "Pre-health" students. In order to reach this goal, the student must complete academic prerequisites and extracurricular requirements to prepare for an application to the professional school. We refer to this as following a "pre-health track".
Learning Communities provide outstanding opportunities to increase your academic success. Students in learning communities enjoy taking a couple of courses together. They connect their out-of-class experiences with their in-class experiences through programs and activities planned specifically for their community. Benefits include: dedicated tutoring & mentoring, opportunity to form connections/study groups which often result in earning better grades, and interaction with faculty who are committed to providing additional experiences outside of the classroom.
You don't have to be on campus to join the 49er family. Our distance education programs make it possible to pursue your educational goals without coming to campus. Our online and off-campus programs offer opportunities that fit adult learners’ busy schedules. The University offers for-credit undergraduate and graduate programs via distance education and we invite you to discover how our programs can meet your needs. Please note that students residing outside the state of North Carolina should carefully review our programs and courses before applying for admission. The availability of our programs to students in other states depends on the home state's regulations.
