New Construction on Campus!

If you notice anything new about UNC Charlotte these days, it may be the increased amount of construction on campus.

In 2000, the North Carolina voters passed a bond referendum to provide new construction at public colleges and universities. UNC Charlotte received $190 million to renovate and build new facilities on campus. The University has focused on the addition of several new buildings that will dramatically increase classroom and academic space on campus.

The College of Health and Human Services building was completed in 2006 and became home to the School of Nursing, Health and Human Services Advising Center, and the Office of International programs. The Harris Alumni Center, dedicated in May 2007, houses the UNC Charlotte Alumni Association and provides a place for alumni to network with fellow 49er classmates.

Other new buildings on the horizon are the Student Health Services building and Greek Village, which will house fraternities and sororities at UNC Charlotte. Current projects in the design/construction phases are the Student Union, which the university “broke pavement” for in the spring of 2007; the Robert and Mariam Hayes Baseball Stadium; and a Bioinformatics Center. A new main entrance on Highway 49 is currently being designed with construction slated to begin in late 2007.
